Mahzad Mohajer

I’m Mahzad Mohajer

An Iranian American therapist. LMFT-A.

As an immigrant who has lived in the United States since childhood, I understand the unique cultural nuances, values, and pressures that come with being part of the Iranian and broader Middle East community.

As a therapist who shares your cultural background and speaks English and Farsi, I offer an empathetic, culturally competent space where you won’t need to explain the nuances of your heritage.

I understand the importance of respect, saving face, humility, and the desire to present strength to the world. At the same time, I know the challenges that come with internalizing these values, and
I’m here to help you explore and address these struggles without judgment.

I completed graduate school in 2024 with a Master of Science in Psychology with a focus in Marriage and Family Therapy.

My career has always centered around building and nurturing relationships, whether it was in healthcare, energy, or business sectors. Over 15 years in healthcare, specifically in managing clinical settings and interacting directly with clients, taught me the importance of compassion, clear communication, and understanding the impact of health on family dynamics. I bring a combination of empathy, strategic thinking, and a client-centered approach to every session.

My experience as an immigrant and a professional in both business and healthcare equips me to address the complexities of navigating multiple identities and the pressures of succeeding in a competitive environment. I am here to support you in finding a path that honors both your cultural heritage and your personal aspirations.

If you feel:

  • The Pressure to Achieve: Whether it’s pursuing higher education, finding success in your career, or meeting family expectations, I understand the cultural emphasis on excellence and the pressures it places on individuals.

  • Family Dynamics and Boundaries: The strong sense of family in our culture can sometimes lead to over-involvement or codependency. I can help you explore these dynamics, set healthy boundaries, and find your own autonomy while still honoring familial relationships.
  • Marriage and Relationships: I recognize the cultural pressures around marriage, starting a family, and maintaining an image of perfection. Together, we can address these pressures and work on relationship challenges, attachment issues, and building self-worth outside of societal expectations.
  • Navigating Identity: Balancing the cultural pride of our heritage with the realities of living in the West can be difficult. I can support you in exploring your identity, finding your voice, and building confidence outside of the expectations placed upon you.
If you’re seeking a therapist who understands the depth of Iranian culture, the pride in our heritage, and the modern challenges of living in a multicultural world, I am here for you. Together, we can explore the complexities of your experience and work towards greater well-being and balance.
