What if my cultural background or beliefs are different from yours? Will you understand?

Do you work with people who speak different languages or come from different countries?

Absolutely! Whether you’re an immigrant, a first-generation American, or just someone navigating multiple cultural identities, therapy can help. We have bilingual therapists who speak English, Spanish, Farsi, and Bulgarian.  If we do not have a therapist who speaks your native language, we can discuss options like interpreters or referrals to other therapists if that would feel more comfortable for you. 

I feel like my struggles are connected to racism, discrimination, or oppression. Can we talk about that?

Yes! Systemic issues like racism, sexism, and discrimination affect mental health in real ways. Therapy isn’t just about individual change—it’s also about acknowledging these realities and finding ways to cope, heal, and advocate for yourself in a world that isn’t always fair.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on your goals and situation. Some people come for a few months, while others find long-term therapy helpful. We’ll figure out a plan that works for you and adjust as needed. Therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all process.

What if I cry a lot? Is that okay?

Completely okay! Emotions don’t need to be hidden here. In many cultures, people are taught to be “strong” and not show emotions, but therapy is a space where you don’t have to hold everything in.

What if my family or community doesn’t support the changes I’m making?

What if I feel like therapy isn’t helping?

That’s something we’ll check in on regularly. Sometimes, we need to adjust our approach or try new techniques. And if for any reason this isn’t the right fit, I’ll help you find a therapist who might be better suited for you. Therapy is about what works best for YOU.

Can I stop therapy whenever I want?

Yes! You’re in control. Some people take breaks and return later, and others decide when they feel ready to move on. If you’re thinking about stopping, we’ll talk about it first so we can wrap things up in a way that feels good for you.

The Practical Side
Do you offer therapy on a sliding scale?

Yes, we have therapists who offer reduced rates. We want therapy to be accessible, especially for those who may not have insurance or whose cultural background makes it harder to seek services.

Do you take insurance?

We operate as out-of-network providers, allowing us to focus on providing quality mental health support without the necessity of a diagnosis. We do not directly accept insurance, but we offer two flexible alternatives to suit your needs.

  • Upon request, we can provide you with a detailed receipt (superbill) for submission to your insurance company, enabling you to seek reimbursement independently.
  • Alternatively, we provide sessions at a rate equivalent to your specialist co-payment plus an additional $10, ensuring simplicity and accessibility while avoiding the complexities associated with insurance processes. This option has a minimum price of $30.

These choices are designed to accommodate your preferences and streamline the financial aspect of your therapeutic journey. If you have any questions or need further clarification, feel free to discuss your specific needs with us.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes! Teletherapy can be a great option, especially for those who feel more comfortable talking from home or have transportation barriers.

What if I prefer a therapist who shares my background or identity?

That’s completely valid! If you feel like you’d connect better with someone of a specific racial, cultural, or gender identity, we support that. We can help you find a therapist who aligns with your needs.

What should I expect from going to therapy?

Going to therapy involves entering a confidential and empathetic space where you can openly express your thoughts and feelings. Your therapist will actively listen, help set goals, provide evidence-based strategies, encourage self-exploration, and equip you with coping skills. Therapy is a collaborative endeavor, with the therapist customizing the approach to your specific needs, helping you work towards your therapeutic goals.

What are the risks of therapy?

Therapy offers numerous benefits, but it’s important to recognize potential risks. Clients may experience temporary emotional discomfort when discussing sensitive topics and may uncover uncomfortable truths. Positive changes can be challenging, leading to resistance, and some individuals might become overly reliant on therapy. In rare cases, clients may encounter an ineffective therapist or misdiagnosis. However, these risks are often outweighed by the benefits of therapy, and open communication with your therapist can help address and minimize these concerns, ensuring a positive therapeutic experience.

How does confidentiality work?

What you discuss with us in session is confidential but there are some exceptions required by law. The exceptions are: If you could be a danger to yourself or others; in case of any medical emergencies; when there is reasonable suspicion of abuse/neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult; or if we are summoned by a judge.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept payment in the form of cash, and all major credit cards.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance or do not show up for a scheduled appointment, the charge for the session will be a penalty of 100% of your regular rate.
