I’m Rachael Marie Barrientos
A bilingual therapist. LPC
I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, along with a minor in Public and Interpersonal Communications. I have specialized in Latinx mental health, spiritual integration, and multicultural counseling, all areas that I am both personally and professionally passionate about. For the past 7 years, I have been working with children, adolescents, adults of all ages, and families to overcome their most pressing emotional, mental, and behavioral struggles. I offer therapy in English and Spanish (or a mix of both!).
In both my personal and professional life, I have navigated multiple cultures, languages, and spiritual belief systems. Because of my background, I believe that people are deeply valuable and worthy of time and attention. This has translated into a therapy practice where I listen attentively with respect and curiosity. My goal is that you may come to feel understood and understand yourself better, to speak your unspoken pain and struggle, and to find a path toward change.
I know how much bravery it takes to look for professional help, especially in spite of the critical messages our families, communities, and society may have toward mental health and therapy. If you are from another culture or in an intercultural relationship, you know that culture plays a huge part in how we face life’s issues. Sometimes the issues we are facing have been piling up for years and we have never spoken of them. Other times, they are so instantly debilitating that we don’t know what else to do but look for help. Maybe they are issues that we have tried to resolve over and over again and nothing seems to work. I get it. I’ve been there, too.
A compassionate and connection-centered approach
I aim to establish a trusting relationship where clients can experience the healing power of connection and overcome barriers to connection that contribute to mental, emotional, relational, and behavioral difficulties. I provide compassionate therapy, addressing a range of issues including grief, emotion regulation, self-esteem, and interpersonal connections. Collaborating closely with parents, I strive to understand family dynamics and offer family therapy sessions when beneficial.
Grounded in the belief that healing occurs within the context of relationships, my therapeutic approach emphasizes the importance of connection. I value cultural sensitivity, specializing in supporting Spanish-speakers seeking culturally competent therapy, navigating grief and loss, addressing ongoing emotional symptoms related to trauma, and working through relational conflicts.
